Is your mental health affecting your physical health?

Your mental health is very closely linked to the physical health in a wide variety of ways. But the connect between the mental health and physical health is often misunderstood. They are both considered to be separate entities but there is a very fine line that separates the two. Even WHO defines health as a complete mix of physical, mental and social wellbeing.

There is a very special connection between the mind, body and the soul and in case if anyone of them is affected it affects the other someway or the other. It is a much known fact that one in every five adults has some mental illness but most of the people shy away from accepting the same. Depression is just one of the types of mental illness but there are more problems spanning from irritability, sad mood, anger, frustration, anxiety, addiction, eating disorders etc.

This makes it very clear that mental health should not be ignored. Mental health can affect your day to day decision making abilities, make you physically feel low and depressed and also give birth to some chronic diseases. Ignoring mental health can give rise to complex health complications like heart disease, high blood pressure, obesity, gastronomical problems, premature death, asthma or weakened immune system. Depression is a known mental illness which can also cause chronic fatigue, cause aches and pains and give rise to insomnia.

A Healthy Mind Rests in a Healthy body

While mental illness gives rise to physical illness, vice versa is also true. Even physical illness can cause mental fatigue and make you feel low and depressed. So one needs to keep body fit and fine, in order to have great mental energy.
